Spark is a student-centered web application combining rich student data, Canvas data, and student support resources into a secure, personalized dashboard aimed squarely at helping students succeed in their desired academic pathways. In this session, we will explain - how we architected Spark in C# .NET to be campus-portable - how we utilized the Unizin Data Platform to integrate and normalize data from the SIS and LMS. - how we built the Canvas LTI integration - challenges and solutions - our AWS Cloud infrastructure - our plans for the future and increasing scalability

I am Web Application Developer for UC Irvine with the Student Success Technologies team, where we craft innovative tools to enhance student success. Utilizing .NET, we create powerful applications that bridge the gap between students, advisors, and data analytics. Most recently, I contributed to UCI Spark, a personalized dashboard that connects students with university resources and empowers them with Canvas activity analytics.

Mike Walton is the manager and senior web developer of the Student Success Technologies team at UC Irvine. Mike began his time at UC Irvine in 2018 as a .NET software engineer building and maintaining web applications to help advisors in the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. Prior to working at UC Irvine, Mike has worked as a web developer and professional services consultant in various domains including pharmaceutical clinical trials, document management, VoIP telephone service, and mainframe middleware. In addition to writing software, Mike enjoys playing music, and currently plays bass in a rock and country band.
