The UC Residency Determination Project addresses the challenge of accurately determining residency status for incoming undergraduate students. This session will explore how we've implemented an AI-powered solution using Google's Gemini to analyze student documents and answer administrative questions, significantly streamlining the process. We'll discuss the project's architecture, the benefits of AI in handling large volumes of personal data, and the impact on efficiency, accuracy, and student experience. Attendees will gain insights into applying similar AI solutions to other complex administrative tasks. To accelerate the coding process we will explore how to incorporate Large Language Model (LLM) assisted code completion extensions into development workflow. These extensions, powered by advanced AI, utilized the context of files and coding patterns to provide intelligent code suggestions and completions.
Speaker/Host
Johannes Pikel brings a unique blend of creative problem-solving and technical skill to software development. Before diving into code with a CS degree from Oregon State, he spent years managing the technical side of large-scale theatre productions, even working internationally. Now, as a Senior Software Developer at UC Riverside, he leads projects building efficient university applications using NestJS, Angular, and even AI (like Google Gemini!). He enjoys finding smart ways to automate tasks and improve systems, delivering results like significantly reduced processing times and workload.
