Migrating an On-Prem Learning Management System to AWS with Infrastructure as Code

Body
In this session, we will share our experience migrating our Learning Management System from on-premises to AWS. We will walk through designing a scalable and secure cloud infrastructure using CloudFormation, automating deployments with AWS CodePipeline, orchestrating containers with ECS Fargate, and managing databases with Amazon RDS. The migration process involved moving code via GitHub, files with AWS DataSync, and the database through DBMS export/import.

Navigating the Pilot Process: Tools, Templates, and Best Practices

Body
This session will showcase how our department identifies, explores, and evaluates emerging technologies that support effective teaching and learning. Our department regularly pilots academic technology tools hosted by third-party vendors, so we developed a comprehensive guide to streamline and navigate through the piloting process. Join us as we walk through the guide, covering key aspects such as establishing scope, developing timelines and milestones, identifying risks and mitigations, creating a communications plan, conducting assessments, and defining success metrics.

APeX Enabled Research

Body
This poster will highlight the impact of the APeX Enabled Research (AER) team on implementing clinical and technical innovations at UCSF. The poster will explain the primary goals of the team, volume of project work, and breadth of technologies used to support research innovation. Ideally UC Tech attendees will learn more about what is technically possible today to support research, get inspiration for projects at their organization, get connected with others doing similar work, and lead to future collaboration and innovation across UC campuses.

What We Learned From the AI Detection Pilot at UC Berkeley

Body
When Turnitin’s AI Writing Detection Tool launched in Spring 2023, staff from UC Berkeley’s Research, Teaching, and Learning (RTL) department recognized the need for careful exploration of the tool to understand instructor concerns around academic integrity, accuracy, equity, privacy, student access, and actionability. In collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Student Conduct, RTL invited instructors to participate in an opt-in pilot from Fall 2023 – Spring 2025.

AI-Powered User Stories: Supercharge Your Agile Development

Body
Tired of the time-consuming process of crafting user stories? In this session, we'll explore how AI can revolutionize your user story development. We'll delve into real-world examples, like the "eFile Plus" project, where AI was successfully used to generate user stories, resulting in increased efficiency and improved project outcomes.

Navigating the World of E-Form Solutions

Body

This session will go over the strengths/weaknesses of three popular form-building platforms: MachForm, Qualtrics, and DocuSign's Powerform. The session will explain and demonstrate the platforms, common use-case scenarios for each, and why some should be used over others (for inherent reasons, as well as user/security-requirement reasons).
