Our Data Lakehouse Architecture in GCP

This talk will explain our Data Lakehouse tool and architecture stack that allows us to rapidly deliver data for AI, analytics, reporting, integrations, and more. We'll cover our use of Invoke for data ingestion, dbt for pipelines, BigQuery as a database, Looker as an analytics tool, and Vertex AI for data science. We'll also cover our medallion-like architecture within the data lakehouse.

Data Architect at UC Riverside

Jason has an extensive IT background spread over the last 22 years. He joined UC Riverside in 2022 as their Data Architect after almost 20 years working with Indiana University in various positions. He has a background in mutiple IT areas including support, security, system infrastructure, administration, development, analytics, and of course data. Jason can typically be found solving data related problems or automating a problem out of existence. He has been using Google's Cloud Platform offerings including BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Storage, Logging, and others to create solutions out of raw data. These solutions then empower all levels of the institution to make data informed decisions.

Michelle Hardwick is the Chief Data Officer for UCR. Her primary goal is to create intuitive and insightful data products that drive data-informed decisions and boost data literacy across the campus. With over 20 years of experience in data, Michelle has overseen multiple implementations of data warehouses, BI, analytics, and machine learning across many industries. She is passionate about improving storytelling with data and effective data visualizations. Michelle has a BS in Computer Science from Winona State University and an MBA from Utah State University.

A recognized authority on databases and AI, he is a published author and frequent speaker at industry conferences worldwide, sharing his expertise with organizations seeking to leverage technology for a strategic advantage. His contributions to the field have earned him accolades such as the SELECT Editorial Award for Best Article (2001), recognition as OTN Architect of the Week (2004), and the Ken Jacobs Award (2017).

Prior to Google, Daniel held key leadership positions at Oracle and First American, where he spearheaded the creation of one of North America's largest and most complex database environments. His deep technical expertise and commitment to public sector innovation make him a valuable resource for organizations navigating the evolving technology landscape.
